A Look at the Spurs and the Hornets
Tim Duncan’s career might be coming to a close, but he is still up there playing amazing basketball. His thirteenth season starts, albeit a little slower with tendinitis, after a poor 08-09 season. Averaging 19.8 points and 8.0 rebounds, it just wasn’t good enough to reach the playoffs.
Duncan said, “I only have a few years left in me, hopefully I go help the team and go out in style”. Being 33 he is coming to the close of his basketball career.
The Spurs have surprised everyone by acquiring Richard Jefferson in a swap deal for Bowen, Thomas and Oberto. This shows the emphasis the team is putting into Jefferson, who has $29.2 million left on a two year contract.
The San Antonio Spurs also collected McDyess and Ratliff as seasoned players. This will no doubt strengthen the front and offer some much needed experience on court.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said, “The game has changed a lot recently and we have hung in there and adapted. We have held off spending money, until now as the time is much better for that”.
This will see the Spurs and the Hornets battle it out on the court with experienced players in new shirts. NBA has been growing and evolving into being a super fast paced ball game. With huge salaries and budgets, the game is only getting better.
The 09-10 season is underway and looks set to be a cracker.
