F1 Races

F1 races are fast and they are furious. They combine elements of speed and danger as well as being excessively expensive and glamorous. F1 races are synonymous with style and prestige. Formula 1 can trace it’s history back to the very start of motor racing as a sport in the United States, and therefore has a lot of rivalry within the sport. F1 isn’t just about the drivers, it’s about the technological advancement of the cars, behind the scenes, pit stop crews and the teams that create and maintain the hi-tech machinery. When the Grand Prix is on, the roar of adrenalin can be heard for miles. And it’s a sport that takes no prisoners. F1 then, is the perfect antidote to the more sedate sports and just the thing you need to get your pulse racing on a weekend.

Held all around the world, from Australia to China, Bahrain to Monaco, F1 is truly a global sport, and boasts more viewers than any other sporting event on the planet, except for the Olympics which is only held every four years anyway. The race season consists of a series of races (known as Grand Prix) that are held on purpose built circuits, public roads and closed city streets. Many cities shut down when an F1 race comes to town.

As the premier motor racing sport in the world, the Grand Prix races boast the biggest audiences of any sporting event. Some 600 million people tune in to watch every Grand Prix season. And as the cars rev up and begin flying off from the starting grid it’s easy to see why, and you start to get some idea about what these cars are made of. They are often more closely compared to fighter jets than to normal cars. These high performance machines race around the track at speeds of up to 360 km/h and are able to pull in excess of 5g forces!

The race begins with a warm up lap, also called a qualifier. This allows the drivers and their teams to make sure that their cars are in full optimal working condition and there are no technical problems. The winner of this race determines who will take pole position on the starting grid when the actual race begins.
