How to bet on Golf
There are generally three types of different wagers in golf betting that a gambler can make for any golf tournament. You can bet on a particular golfer to win the tournament, to be placed in the top three or bet that a particular golfer finishes ahead of another golfer.
The following shows an example of what you may see when looking at odds for a tournament:
Tiger Woods + 150
Phil Mickelson + 250
Steve Stricker + 300
Jeff Overton + 700
Ernie Els + 700
Field + 600
These odds are called money line odds, which basically means for every £10 bet on Tiger Woods to win the tournament, your return would be £15 If your bet was on Ernie Els to win, your return would be £70 for every £10 bet. You would also receive your initial stake back.
If you bet on a golfer to finish in the top three, the odds will usually always be lower, as the sportsbook will have to pay on three different winning bets, as opposed to one.
Below is an example of what the odds for the golfers to finish in the top three would resemble:
Tiger Woods – 160
Phil Mickelson + 100
Steve Stricker + 110
Jeff Overton + 200
Ernie Els + 200
Field – 110
Using this form of betting, you would have to bet £16 on Tiger Woods to win £10, if he finished in the top three.
The last commonly placed bet in golf is a head-to-head finish between two players. This bet is when you want your chosen golfer to finish higher than another chosen golfer.
A line for this type of bet will look something like:
Tiger Woods – 190 Steve Stricker + 150
If your were betting on Tiger Woods to finish higher than Steve Stricker, you would bet £19 to win £10. If you bet on Stricker to beat Woods, you could bet £10 to win £15.
If you are familiar with any other type of sports betting, you will have no trouble making the transition to golf betting.
