One way to bet online is to use betting lines, and these are available at all the different sportsbooks. The lines may look complicated but they aren’t that difficult when you follow this simple guide on how to read the lines.

When you first see a line it will appear with team names and numbers. It will look like this NYJ –10.5 -110 +310 and underneath ATL +10.5 – 110 +310 and then under that 45.5 ov -110.

You then need to determine which is the favourite and this team will have a minus beside the first number. If you look above you will see that NYJ is the favorite.

Now you need to look at the spread and this is determined by the first number following each team which is 10.5. The great thing bout this type of bet is that say you bet on Atlanta ATL to win and they lose but by a margin of less than 10.5 then you win as the favourite must win by a score greater than 10.5. The score following the spread number is the amount that the player must place to win $100.

The money line is the next and it is the last number in the two rows, so -250 for NYJ and +310 for ATL. This is where you bet on the team to win outright. They only need to win and the margin is not important the – 250 for NYJ means you need to bet $250 to win $100 whereas +310 means that you bet $100 on ATL and you will win $310.

The final part of the bet is the over and under. This bet is placed on the score of the game and whether or not the combined score of the teams will be higher or lower than that number. You are able to bet high or low and if you have the correct prediction then you win, so in the example above if you bet over the score of 45.5 and the score of the game is 29-17 then you would win as this combined score is greater then 45.5. The last number is the amount that you have to bet to win $100.
