Before you start betting on Basketball, you will need to understand the different terms that refer to the bets available. Knowing which bet is referred to by a certain term will save you time and money.
The most important terms are as follows and they are relevant to you betting at a sportsbook.
Arbitrage – which means that you make a combination bet, but if one bet loses the other wins.
Bet to Win – When you bet on a team or individual to win.
Money Line – These are the odds on a win without any point margin or spread.
Odds – What you will receive if you win given in three formats which vary from region to region. They are in fraction, decimal or moneyline formats and are offered by the majority of sportsbooks.
Over/Under – This is a bet on the combined scores or totals by both teams by the end and you win by predicting the correct outcome of over or under the total.
Parlay – Where one bet links two bets and needs both to win to collect.
Point spread – What a favourite needs to win by in order for a bet to win.
Proposition bet – These are bets that are a little out of the ordinary and can include different bets such as the first team to 20 points among others. Usually a lot of fun, but can be slippery in that they appear too easy sometimes.
These are only a few of the basketball betting terms, but they are the most important for you to know when you start betting.
