Boxing Betting: Marco Antonio Rubio vs. Wilson Santana
WBC Latino middleweight champion Marco Antonio Rubio is putting his belt on the line Saturday night, as he takes on undefeated Wilson Santana at the Auditorio Centenario in Mexico.
Rubio, 30, has rolled to a 48-5-1 record during his career, with an impressive 41 knockouts. The Mexican is riding a five-fight winning streak, as he hasn’t lost since throwing in the towel against Kelly Pavilik in February 2009, thus losing out on his quest for the middleweight title.
He earned a different belt last June — the vacant WBC Latino middleweight title. Rubio defeated Samuel Miller in a unanimous decision at the very arena he’ll be fighting in on Saturday.
Four of Rubio’s last five fights have been decided by knockout. He was last seen in August, when he finished off Jose Luis Zertuche with a TKO in the sixth round. Rubio stands 5-foot-10 and has a 70-inch reach.
The challenger, Santana, is talking a big game. He’s already vowed to “massacre” Rubio and win the fight by the fifth round. A Dominican Republic native, Santana has far less experience than Rubio, having fought just 11 times. He’s won all of them, though, including seven knockouts.
He was last seen fighting Aneudy Marte in the Dominican Republic. Santana earned a unanimous decision, though stopping Marte isn’t exactly a tough feat. In fact, Santana has squared off against a fighter with nine or more career fights just twice.
