Sharp – this is a professional or experienced bettor in sports betting.
Sides – this is the 2 teams taking part in the event.
Single – straight wager.
Sportsbook – company that accepts the bets.
Spread – this is the same as Point Spread, the difference expected between two opponents that is posted by the linemaker.
Square – an amateur in sports betting.
Standard Line – this is when the betting line is -110 for both sides, this is assuming a standard line has 10% juice.
Steam – this is when the betting line moves quickly and is re posted because lots of bettors are drawn to it.
Stake – the amount of your bet.
Straight Bet – a bet on a single event or game.
Straight up (SU) Bet – this is when you win the wager without the point spread and is sometimes known as a moneyline wager.
Sweetheart Teaser – this is a special teaser that combines 3 or 4 basketball or football bets where you can adjust the total or Point spread in your favour.
Taking The Points – when you bet the underdog on the Point Spread.
Taking The Price – when you bet the underdog on the Moneyline.
Teaser – this is a special type of parlay where you can increase the Point Spread or Total in your favour to reduce the payout odds.
Ticket – a bet.
Tie – sometimes referred to as a Push when the risk amount of wager is returned to the bettor.
Total – this is the combined total score of both teams in a sporting event, including overtime.
Totals Bet – this is a bet on the total score of both teams on the over/under of a posted line.
Tout – a handicapper who charged for their services.
Under – this is a bet on the combined score of both teams where the Total will be under a certain number.
Underdog – the team not likely to win the event or race. This is sometimes know as the ‘dog’
