Despite the absence of three-time winner and defending champion Adam Scott, who will instead be competing for his country’s national title at the Australian Open this weekend, the field in Singapore will include recent major champions Phil Mickelson of the United States, Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland, and British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen.
Mickelson, who won the 2010 Masters and finished in second place at this year’s British Open, is listed as the 16/1 co-favorite to win the Barclays Singapore Open along with McDowell, who won the U.S. Open in 2010 at Pebble Beach. Mickelson is the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 11 on the updated official world golf rankings, while McDowell is at No. 14. Oosthuizen won his Open title in 2010 as well, and is listed back at 25/1 odds to win in Singapore this weekend.
Also listed atop the golf betting board at 16/1 odds is Anthony Kim of the United States, who played well at the Shanghai Masters last week but lost in a playoff to Rory McIlroy. Justin Rose of England, who is currently ranked No. 16 in the world and won the BMW Championship at the FedExCup playoffs in September, is right behind the three co-favorites at 22/1 odds to win at the Sentosa Golf Club.
The list of former major winners in the field this week also includes Ireland’s Padraig Harrington, Y.E. Yang of South Korea, and Ernie Els of South Africa, each of whom is listed at 33/1 odds, along with another veteran major champion hailing from South Africa, Retief Goosen, who is down the list at 40/1 odds.
European stalwarts Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain, Robert Karlsson of Sweden, Ross Fisher of England, and Thomas Bjorn of Denmark are all listed at 40/1 odds as well.
