Golf Betting: US Open Predictions
by MrSportsbook
The golfing world turns its attention to one of the most stunning golf courses in the world this week as the best players in the world tee it up at Pebble Beach for the US Open. The US Open has been held four times at the Pebble Beach and has been won by a different player each time. These four golfers hold a staggering 41 Major titles between them.
Those four winners were Nicklaus in 1972, Tom Watson in 1982, Tom Kite in 1992 and Tiger Woods in 2000. One player will add his name to this list of golfing luminaries come Sunday night and to do so he will need to fend off one of the most potent golfing fields in recent years.
Attention will turn to Woods who won here by fifteen shots in 2000 when he shot 12 under to finish the only man under par. His game has shown the cracks of a man who is struggling under enormous pressure and who has played very little golf in the last two years. It is tough to back Tiger at the short odds on offer and the same can be said for Lee Westwood. Westwood has finished in the top 3 of the last three majors but his price is just too short to back.
Looking for value in this field is tough but Adam Scott at 50/1 with Bodog.com looks great value for a golfer who has turned the tables on some mediocre years. This year he has already finished 14th in the Houston Open, top 20 at Augusta and then won the Texas Open last month.
Geoff Ogilvy is another player that has flown under the radar and with history in the US Open having won in 2006 is a great bet at 55/1 with Betfair. He posted the first round lead at the Memorial just last week and looks great value.
If you want a couple of long odds bets then Peter Hanson and David Duval are both widely available at 150/1 and 200/1 respectively. Shop around to find your best odds. Duval disappears for most of the year but has been in contention for a few majors in the last year and with a good finish in the US Open last year may well be worth a little punt. Hanson won on the European Tour this last month and has a great straight hitting game well suited to the demands of Pebble Beach.
