Kobayashi to Head Toyota’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Attempt

After the injured Timo Glock had to pull out of the Japanese Grand Prix, after crashing in qualifying, Toyota have announced Kamui Kobayashi will race in Abu Dhabi. Glock suffered a cut leg and a cracked vertebrae meaning the young Japanese racer took the helm in Brazil and finished a respectable ninth.

John Howett, Toyota’s team President said, “Timo has had a great season, having two podiums, it is a real shame it has ended in injury. We do not want to risk further injury and therefore Kamui will sit in for the last race”.

He went on to say, “We asked a lot of Kamui in Brazil, he’d never raced there but finished two places higher than his qualifying time. We are happy to have him race in Abu Dhabi”.

Kobayashi went on to add, “I’m really looking forward to driving for Toyota again, the car is good, the team are great, I just need more track experience. Hopefully I can impress the team manager again, as Abu Dhabi is a new track for everyone, so there it should be a more even playing field for me”.

The 23 year old driver has been racing for 14 years and has a long career ahead of him. Starting his F1 experience at Interlagos, deep into a championship, has given him the drive to show Toyota what he is capable of. The Abu Dhabi GP starts on 1st November.
