NASCAR Betting: 2011 Kevin Harvick Preview

Kevin Harvick is no stranger to impressive finishes on NASCAR betting odds, but he’s yet to capture a Sprint Cup championship. He has 9/1 odds this season, so will it finally be his year? This is your 2011 Kevin Harvick preview.

Harvick came oh-so-close to winning it all last season, finishing third in the Sprint Cup standings. It was the fourth time Harvick has placed among the Top 5 of NASCAR standings by season’s end, and it continued an odd trend of good year/bad year for the Richard Childress Racing star.

Harvick, for whatever reason, has alternated between very strong years and very average ones for the past six seasons. Beginning in 2005, he has finished 14th, fourth, 10th, fourth, 19th and third in the Sprint Cup standings. If you believe there’s any traction to the trend, Harvick is destined to miss the Top 5 in 2011.

Still, it’s hard not to like Harvick after logging the best season of his career. Though he couldn’t match his career high in wins (he won three races, compared to five in 2006), Harvick set or tied personal bests with two poles, 16 Top-5 finishes, and 26 Top-10s. The Top-10s smashed his previous best by six races, and that kind of consistency will be crucial if Harvick is going to make a legitimate run at the Sprint Cup. Harvick also smashed his career best for average finish, winding up at 8.7 (his next best was 12.2 in 2006).

Harvick is already on the board with a Top-10 finish this year. After starting Saturday’s Budweiser Shootout 18th on the grid, Harvick worked his way up to finish seventh.
