NBA Championship 2012-2013

NBA Betting Odds: Championship betting

The NBA gets underway this evening and the defending champions, Miami Heat, are up against the Boston Celtics. After a protracted move, Ray Allen, now of the Heat, will face his former side in the first game of the season. Elsewhere, the Lakers take on Dallas Mavericks, in what promises to be an exciting first day of regular season action.

The Heat are -275 for the win on opening day while a win for the Lakers is even shorter: -450.

Miami lead the way at +225 on the odds to win the NBA championship in the futures market, as they prepare for their season-opening game against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night. Miami hasn’t changed its core for this season; LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh are still The Big Three, but it did tinker with its roster by adding Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis over the summer. The Heat are also the -175 favourites to win the East title.

The defending champions are worthy favourites. Ray Allen made the unpopular move to Miami after failing to agree terms with the Boston Celtics. The presence of Allen alongside LeBron James and Dwyane Wade makes this rotation look more balanced. I think the price on offer is generous.

Over in the West it’s the Los Angeles Lakers at +130 odds to win that conference crown, with Kobe Bryant and company second to the Heat at +275 to win the NBA championship this season. The Lakers now have both Dwight Howard and Steve Nash to compliment Bryant and Pau Gasol, which they’re hoping is enough to push them past the Oklahoma City Thunder and into a possible Finals match up with James and the Heat.

Other than the big two watch out for Oklahoma this season. Despite being comprehensively beaten 4-1 by Miami in last year’s NBA Finals, the Thunder remains the team to beat in the west. This young rotation played some outstanding basketball last season but came up short against a stellar Miami team. Few changes were made during the off-season, which is good news for Oklahoma City. Kevin Durant and company are bound to make a bold bid for the title. At +500 they could be good for a sleeper pick.
