NFL Pre-Season Picks 2012/13

Pre-season games are never the easiest to call, with teams working their way up to full fitness and strength, but they can be crucial in indicating how a team is shaping up for the regular season. It is a chance to show the other teams out there where you are at; these are the penultimate games for teams prior to the big kick-off on Sunday 9th September.

The Saints take on the Cardinals in the first game of pre-season NFL action and even if he’s only in for a series, you know Drew Brees wants to make a statement. The starters will only play a series or two but they will play hard. Likewise the back-ups will see this as their chance to stand up and make a statement for New Orleans. The Cardinals don’t have a tenth of this kind of motivation. For Arizona the priorities will be simple. Keep everyone healthy and get a good look at some potential back-ups. Throw in the Saints’ propensity to find some brilliant undrafted talent and you’ve got a machine that’s set to win. Bet on the New Orleans Saints as -250 favourites with Sports Interaction.

The debut of Robert Griffin III has seen the Redskins installed as -200 favourites against Buffalo. This looks like a game where there’s good value for bettors. RGIII is unlikely to see more than a series or two and the Bills won’t make it easy for him in his first taste of the big league. The Bills don’t have a playoff calibre roster but they do possess the type of back-ups that will stand out at this time of year. We’re going with the underdog here. Bet on the Buffalo Bills as +200 underdogs to grab the win here.

The battle of Pennsylvania sees the Eagles host the Steelers and this stands out as a game for smart bettors. Ben Roethlisberger is hurt and may not see any action in this game. In what looks like a transitional year for Pittsburgh, they will still be finding their way in terms of depth. The Eagles on the other hand have plenty of motivation to look strong early. Bet on the Eagles to win as -100 favourites with Sports Interaction.

How do you follow a start like that? Andrew Luck was majestic in his first outing wearing a Colts’ uniform. The trick will be keeping that kind of momentum going through to the snaps that matter in September. This Sunday night the Colts travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. Luck showed he could tough it out at College level but he’s going to have to make do with a shaky line. I like Pittsburgh to contain the Colts starters and then show greater depth when the back-ups come into play. Bet on the Steelers as -400 favourites to win big with Sports Interaction.
