The Flyers took advantage of a hapless Columbus Blue Jackets club in their last game on Saturday night, winning 9-2 at home behind three-point efforts from Jakub Voracek and James van Riemsdyk.
Sean Couturier had a pair of goals for Philly in that contest, while Voracek, van Riemsdyk, Matt Carle, Claude Giroux, Jaromir Jagr, Wayne Simmonds, and Max Talbot had one marker apiece. Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 33 of 35 Columbus shots.
The Lightning have won two straight games heading into their meeting with the Flyers on Wednesday night, beating Chicago 5-4 last Friday and picking up a 4-3 win in Florida on Sunday in a shootout.
Florida took a 3-0 lead on the Bolts in the first period of that contest, sending Tampa Bay netminder Mathieu Garon to the bench. Dwayne Roloson took over from there as the Lightning rallied to tie the game at 3-3 and then pick up the victory in the shootout.
Ryan Malone, Steven Stamkos, and Teddy Purcell all scored for the Lightning in that contest, while Roloson made 29 saves in relief of Garon.
The Flyers and Lightning haven’t played yet this season, but Philadelphia is 6-4 in the past 10 meetings between the teams. Philadelphia could also get a boost on Wednesday with the return of star defenseman Chris Pronger, who has been upgraded to day-to-day with his eye injury.
