Paul the Octopus Makes a Killing

Paul the Octopus has correctly predicted his sixth match in a row but his predicting expertise may be short lived with death threats against him numbering the thousands. In some countries it is the referee who receives the death threat but this time Paul the eight tentacled soothsayer is the one on the receiving end.

After the Quarter-Final when he correctly predicted Argentina would lose to Germany he was met with his first wave of death threats as Argentineans wanted him in a paella and one newspaper even printed a recipe to help anyone who managed to catch the psychic. Paul however remained unperturbed and survived this scare.

Now though he is at threat from the German people in his adopted homeland with many claiming his English roots are the cause of the German defeat to Spain. There have been demands for him to be put on the barbecue, or fried or even turned into a seafood salad or paella. The German fans have clearly not forgiven the poor soul and there are Facebook groups springing up everywhere.

Another suggestion has been to throw the lad into the shark tank whilst Argentinan chef Nicolas Bedorrou has suggested on Facebook his own approach for preparing Paul the octopus:

“We will chase him and put him on some paper. We will then beat him (but correctly!) in order to keep the meat tender and then put it in boiling water.”

This is all a long way from the height of his powers when Paul was televised live by the German news channel n-tv, millions chanted his name in the streets of Berlin and he was being put forward as the next governor of California.

There is still some doubt over Paul’s future and whether he will be predicting the final or 3rd/4th place play off but there is some good news as talent spotter Arsene Wenger is understood to be sniffing around commenting:

“He’s young, he’s got a real footballing brain and with eight legs he can afford to get a few injuries.”
