Penguins Bruins Game 2 Preview

The Pittsburgh Penguins have a big fat donut next to their name for the first time in the Play Offs this season and coach Dan Bylsma will need to set a few heads straight after their 3-0 loss to the Boston Bruins in Game 1 ahead of tonight’s game.

Penguins Bruins Game 2 Preview:

In Game 1 the Bruins were able to upset the Penguins with a serious amount of grey are hockey, antagonising the more fluent Penguins into what became a pretty scrappy affair. In Game 2 the Penguins will surely have addressed this and will look to avoid the game turning out the same way to allow the likes of Crosby and Malkin to perform at their best.

Crosby and Malkin were both involved in incidents neither will want to repeat that definitely helped distract two of the biggest goal threats for the Penguins. Malkin’s fight was a rare occurrence but Matt Cooke being ejected for bodychecking Adam McQuaid from behind into the boards was no real surprise.

It’s rare to see Pittsburgh shut out at home and even rarer to see them shut out in such style by a goalie who has perhaps not received the credit he deserves. Rask is already having a great post-season and there are echoes of Conn Smyth Trophy winner Tim Thomas from 2011 in his stats.

In Game 1 Pittsburgh started well and looked in control of the game, getting shots in on Rask’s goal but the puck didn’t fall their way and the Bruins were able to take control the longer the game went on. Pittsburgh will need to improve their discipline and concentrate on what they do best if they want to avoid falling two behind against Boston.

For Penguins fans out there hopefully Game 1 was something of a blip and the players getting some stuff out of their system after a long lay-off. Expect them to bounce back and tie the series.
