Presidential First Ladies Salute at World Series Opening

The opening game of the World Series at Yankee Stadium will see First Lady Michelle Obama and Second Lady Dr Jill Biden attend. The pre-game ceremonies are dedicated to veterans who have just returned from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Major League Baseball have invited the ladies to attend as a way of honouring the troops and their families for their contributions to freedom. The group Welcome Back Veterans has arranged the event.

The Yankee legend Yogi Berra is a hero from World War II as well as a legend in baseball. Mr Berra and also decorated hero Tony Odierno will be escorting the ladies out onto the field.

The group Welcome Back Veterans is a charity backed by MLB and provides support and counselling to returning soldiers as well as helping returning vets back to work. Bud Selig is excited about the visiting wives of the white house. He also feels that the gesture will make a real difference to the veterans present. “We hope their presence at both the game and the hospital visit will be an inspiration to the veterans, who proudly served our country,” said Selig.

Due to the presence of these important ladies there is to be extensive security measures throughout the stadium. Many fans will find that they have to pass through special searches and secret service metal detectors before gaining access to the stadium.
