Rally Champion Denied Super Licence for Final F1 Race

Sebastian Loeb, the five time world rally champion, just missed out on gaining the mandatory Super License in order to start the Abu Dhabi GP on 1st November.

He said, “Being given the opportunity to race an F1 car was and still is a dream. I just missed out getting the license as it was all a rushed decision”. He was sad to miss out on the chance but added, “If my boss allows it, for sure I’d take up any chance to race a single seater”.

The FIA deemed Loeb as not meeting the criteria set by their standards. There are stringent testing and preparations needed which he did not have the time to fulfil.

Loeb stated, “I’ll probably not get another chance like this and I thank Red Bull Racing for offering me the opportunity”.

Loeb has driven an F1 car before but has his day job to think of. He has a sixth WRC title to chase. The Rally of Britain is set to be a nail biter. He sits one point behind the Fin, Mikko Hirvonen, and it looks to add to his incredible rallying championship tally and silverware.

There seems to be a growing trend of motorsport drivers diversifying in their field. Moto GP star Valentino Rossi has tried his hand in rallying. He is in a similar position to Loeb with many world championships under his belt and wanting to dominate more.
