Here’s what they have to say today about Butler’s route to the Final Four:
After stunning college basketball betting fans with a run to the Final Four last season, the Butler Bulldogs are at it again, making another appearance in 2011. Let’s review Butler’s path to the Final Four.
The Bulldogs (27-9, 19-14-1 ATS) might be the hottest team in the country. They’ve won a whopping 13 consecutive games. It began with a nine-game winning streak before the NCAA Tournament, with Butler eventually beating Wisconsin-Milwaukee 59-44 to earn the Horizon League Championship.
It was during the Horizon League playoffs that Butler started gaining some momentum against the spread, too. The Bulldogs are 8-2 in their past 10 outings on college basketball odds and have now covered six consecutive games against the spread.
Their strong tournament play led to a No. 8 seed in the tourney and a first-round date with No. 9 Old Dominion. Butler needed a buzzer-beating tip-in to beat the Monarchs 60-58, and it set the stage for the Bulldogs to be Cardiac Kids for the rest of March Madness.
Butler drew No. 1 Pittsburgh in the second round and the game wound up being a classic. Several boneheaded fouls in the game’s final seconds gave both teams a chance to win, but 30 points from MVP candidate Shelvin Mack helped Butler to a 71-70 victory.
The Bulldogs continued their Cinderella season with a win over another favorite, No. 4 Wisconsin, coming through with a 61-54 win in the Sweet 16. Butler built a 20-point lead at one point and held on for the win.
Finally, Butler came through with another tight victory in a 74-71 overtime win over No. 2 Florida. The Bulldogs got 27 points from Mack, who is averaging 21.2 points per game in the tourney so far. Thanks to him and some clutch play from forward Matt Howard (16.2 points, 7.0 rebounds during March Madness), the Bulldogs have won their four tourney games by a total of 13 points.
