Route To The Final Four – VCU

NCAA VCU Basketball

Bodog take a look at March Madness with this great basketball betting update on VCU’s path to the Final four. We might not always agree with the online sportsbook but we applaud their efforts day in day out to bring you updates on basketball betting and other sports betting. Here’s what they have to say today about VCU ahead of the Final Four:

Those who’ve bet on March Madness and casual fans alike have been shocked as VCU carved a path to the Final Four. With a win over Butler on Saturday, the Rams will advance to the National Championship Game. Let’s review how they’ve made it this far.

At this point, Virginia Commonwealth (28-11, 18-20 ATS) has +450 odds to win the National Championship—pretty amazing considering the team was on the bubble to even make the tourney. The Rams went just 5-6 over their last 11 games of the regular season and conference tournament play, but they were awarded with a spot in the First Four.

VCU looked very sharp against USC, earning a 59-46 victory and a spot as the No. 11 seed in the Southwest Region. The next two wins came surprisingly easy to VCU despite playing higher-ranked seeds.

First, the Rams grabbed a 74-56 victory over No. 6 Georgetown. They crushed the Hoyas with a flurry of three-point bombs, racking up a dozen three-pointers in the win. VCU switched gears in the next game, cruising past No. 3 Purdue 94-76 with a new strategy—a series of slashing drives and layups.

Virginia Commonwealth finally caught a break in the Sweet 16, drawing a No. 10 Florida State team that had upset No. 2 Notre Dame in the previous round. Coincidentally, it was the low-ranked Seminoles that finally put up a fight against VCU; the Rams needed a layup with 7.1 seconds left and a blocked shot at the buzzer to earn a 72-71 victory over FSU.

The Rams saved their best for last, though, by knocking off No. 1 Kansas 71-61. At one point, VCU racked up a 17-point lead—impressive considering the Jayhawks had never trailed by more than two during the entire tournament.

VCU relies on a furious defense, pressing as the ball is brought up court and wearing out its opponent’s guards. The Rams have great speed and fitness, and they can hurt you in variety of ways, from three-point shooting to slashing drives. There’s also no single player opponents can key on, as Jamie Skeen, Bradford Burgess, Brandon Rozzell and Joey Rodriguez are all capable of racking up points in double figures.
