Stanley Cup Champions the Team to Beat According to Sportsbooks

NHL Betting preview - Chicago Blackhawks available at +600 with most online sportsbooks

The Chicago Blackhawks may have won the Stanley Cup in 2010 but the Chicago Blackhawks starting this season will be a very different looking roster. The number of moves in and out has been well documented over the summer with the loss of Antti Niemi especially noted. Byfuglien, Versteeg and Sopel have all left to free up Salary Cap space for the big renewals and it will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

Whlist these players may have gone the Blackhawks are still sitting on a treasure chest of talent with five 20-goal scorers returning with Kane, Toews, Sharp, Hossa and Brouwer all expected to feature in the top six. When Sharp and Hossa found form together they were a real threat in the play-offs and are likely to be in the second line. Kane was in confident mood when talking recently in an interview with NHL.com:

“You look at the team, the guys we lost, yeah, there have been a lot of good guys, a lot of good buddies and a lot of good players, but now the biggest thing is for players to step up and fill those roles,” Kane told NHL.com. “At the same time you can better your game and bring it to the next level to try to become one of the elite players in the NHL. If you’re already elite, then maybe you can even go to another level. You’re looking forward to that next challenge. I’m really trying to take this year serious and do that.”

With the quality of their young players who are now a year older and with the experience of a long season and a Stanley Cup under their belt the Blackhawks certainly look like real contenders and if Marty Turco really is an improvement on Niemi they could be the team to beat.

The Blackhawks are available at +600 with sportsbook.com and Bodog.com to win the Stanley Cup with the Penguins at +700. The last Stanley Cup winners to retain their title was the 1997 Rd Wings who also made large changes after their win. Perhaps the mix of old and new blood can help spur the Blackhawks on.

MrSportsbook Says: The Blackhawks will be there or thereabouts come play-off time and a lot will depend on their goaltending situation. If they maintain form and bring momentum into the play-offs they will be tough to stop. +600 with a good online sportsbook looks quite low though.
