Super Bowl XLVIII Prop Bets Preview

The MetLife Stadium in New Jersey is set to host the coldest Super Bowl in history on Sunday night when the Denver Broncos battle it out with the Seattle Seahawks for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The match-up sees a brilliant Broncos offence led by Peyton Manning taking on the league’s toughest defence, but not every bet placed during Super Bowl XLVIII will be based on the final outcome of the game.

Were going to take a look at this year’s hottest prop bets, that should keep you engaged through out the five-hour spectacle that is Super Bowl XLVIII.

How long will it take Renee Fleming to sing the official US National Anthem?

Super Bowl-National AnthemThe length of the anthem is almost always the most popular of the zany props offered, since it’s easy for anyone to take a stab at and is right at the beginning of the broadcast.

To provide some background, three years ago Christina Aguilera’s time came in at 1 minute and 54 seconds.

However, Fleming presents a unique proposition in that it will be the first time the anthem has been performed at the event by an opera singer.

Those familiar with their falsettos will know this means here time should clock-in slightly longer than Aguilera’s anthem and Bovada have set their limit at over or under 2 minutes 25 seconds.

Over 2 minutes 25 seconds – 2.50

 Under 2 minutes 25 seconds – 1.50

Will the Announcers Say the Word “Marijuana” During the Game?

Washington and Colorado have both legalized marijuana, and Bovada wants to put the announcing crew of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman to the test by seeing if they’ll mention it during the game.

The likelihood of this fact coming up in commentary would have been low only a week ago, but earlier this week Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll suggested that the NFL should explore the use of medical marijuana if it will help the players.

While that should be a debate for a different day, Buck and Aikman may bring it up on the 2nd February given this added relevance.

Over 2 – 2.25

Under 2 – 1.94

How many times will “Beast Mode” be said during the game?

Lynch“Beast Mode” refers to Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch when he’s on his game. Like the “12th Man,” it’s said a lot when the Seahawks play.

It’s hard to imagine a scenario in which the commentary team doesn’t say it at least three times. As per the rules of the bet, it has to be between kick off and final whistle, and cannot be from taped pictures or past video, nor can it be said during half time. We’re backing over 2 and 1.74 #BMO.

Over 2 – 1.74

Under 2 – 2.05
