Find our full Olympic betting pack here. We’ve previewed the young stars you won’t want to miss, looked at the men’s football tournament and identified some of the Team GB stars who could pick up a gold at London 2012
Lizzie Armistead – Women’s Road Race
Best price – 10/1 with Ladbrokes here
Armistead is Team GB’s main medal contender in this race, having overcome fellow Brit and 2008 medallist Nicole Cook, and she should realistically be looking at a bronze or silver today. If the rest of the cycling team do their job, the 23-year-old will fancy her chances hauling her rivals in over a sprint finish.
Annie Lush, Lucy MacGregor and Kate MacGregor – Women’s Elliot 6m Team
Best price – 23/10 with Sportingbet here
This trio of athletes are more than capable of taking gold in this event, with Team USA their closest rivals. The team came together in 2012 and have already won European and world championship titles. Annie Lush has Olympic experience from Athens, Lucy MacGregor skippers the boat and her 20-year-old sister completes the line up. A perfect blend of experience and skill, they will be challengers come August 11th and the end of the event.
Ben Ainslie – Men’s Finn
Best price – 4/7 with Ladbrokes here
Ben Ainslie will compete in his fifth Olympiad this summer and he is heavy favourite to win gold at London 2012. He has dominated the event in recent years and will surely add to his haul of three gold medals and a silver. However the Englishman is far from, infallible. He capsized his boat at a pre-Games regatta in June and went on to finish second. He is one of the athletes backed by Infostrada to bring home a gold for Team GB.
Gemma Spofforth – 100m Backstroke
Best price – 25/1 with Ladbrokes here
The current 100m backstroke world record holder has had a tough time away from the sport since the death of her mother in 2007 and looked set to quit the sport in 2011. She qualified for London 2012 with ease and has confirmed that she will retire for good after this summer’s games. On her day she has the ability to dominate the field, and she will be determined, for several reasons, to put everything into her last individual event . 17-year-old sensation Missy Franklin is favourite for this event, but Spofforth has potential to spoil her party.
