Too Many Cinderellas
I’m confused. Isn’t Butler supposed to be the underdog? Aren’t we all supposed to be pulling for the Bulldogs this weekend down in Houston? The only reason I ask is because I think someone forgot to tell VCU all this.
In the past two weeks Shaka Smarts Rams have made the run Brad Stevens and crew put together look easy. Sure the Bulldogs have beaten a number 1 seed. But they beat Pittsburgh on last second free throws, how’d the Rams do against their top seed you ask? Oh not to bad, just won by 10 points in a game that really wasn’t even that close.
In case you forgot, a large group of people were ticked that VCU even got invited to this years tournament. They argued Virginia Tech was far more deserving. Lets see anyone make an argument against the Rams now. Not only have they beaten opponents, they’ve destroyed just about every power conference there is. PAC 10? Check. They took care of that with a beat down of USC in round one.
The vaunted Big East? Check plus. They didn’t beat Georgetown, they made the Hoyas quit. How about the Big Ten? Easy. Purdue was seen by some as a dark horse to win the region. Too bad they met VCU in the second round, and lost by 18.
How about the ACC? Done. Florida State managed to keep it closer than anyone, but you just can’t fight fate. And finally how about the Big 12? Surely they would show these wanna bees where they belonged right? Wrong. Actually it was the other way around, the Rams showed Kansas just how unworthy the Jayhawk’s were of going to Houston in a 71-61 win on Sunday.
All this has added up to a very intriguing Final Four match-up against, you guessed it Butler. The Bulldogs will now be playing the very unfamiliar role of spoiler in this game. Ever think you would see that sentence? A number 8 seed in the final four, and their NOT considered the underdog.
The good news for fans, is that we are promised a David vs Goliath finale regardless of Saturday?s winner. Which is just about all you can hope for. As for me? I’ll take VCU to take down the Bulldogs. Like I said, sometimes you just can’t fight fate.
